Sending children to school

Mani (wearing the orange t-shirt) and her friends used to spend all day working on a farm, rather than going to school.

Millions of children are out of school around the world. Thanks to your support, UNICEF and partners worked with the government of India to get every child to school. This resulted in the passing of a new law called the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. For the first time in India’s history, children are guaranteed their right to quality elementary education by the state with the help of families and communities. With your help, UNICEF is also working with the government to train teachers and make sure every child gets to school.

This success means the lives of children like Mani are being turned around.

Now, she is enrolled in school and has a bright future ahead. With your support we can make sure every child gets the chance to go to school in India and across the 150 countries where we work.
